One of the highest and active volcanoes of the Andes Mountains, called Cotopaxi. This was the pic shot from with my Canon T5i from the terrace of my building in Quito, Ecuador country in South America continent. This was shot when the volcano erupted in Aug 2015 and is continued in-action till Jan 2016. This eruption was due to 2100 earthquakes in August month with the record of 20,000 tonnes of Sulphur Dioxide emission per day!

Cotopaxi [Koto Paksi] in Spanish means ‘Shining Peak’ or ‘Crescent Moon’ as Coto is Moon,  which gets its name from the Ice-covered tip & is treated as one of the god’s immaculate creation wherein being Volcano at its crest – is holding Ice tip at the top, is appealing to the eyes! It is located in Latacunga canton of Cotopaxi province, around 50km to South of Quito which is capital city of Ecuador.

There were 87 such known-eruptions till date for Cotopaxi which is of 5897m in height, having equatorial glaciers starting at 5000 m & its crater depth is 250 m. On 28/11/1872, German Geologist[Wilhelm Reiss] with his Colombian partner Angel Escobar finally reached the top summit of this volcano – what a great achievement!

These days, climbing Cotopaxi has become an tourist attraction with 100 climbers trying it every weekend. Sometime in Nov 2014, Myself, my husband & daughter were one of them who tried to explore it by touching its base summit that is at 3800 m – one of the most memorable excursion of our days:)
